marriage retreat

of all the movies i choose to watch on netflix, i ended up with marriage retreat. great message, though acting left much to be desired. i understood every concept in the movie and even guessed what would happen in a majority of the scenes.

i realize my own failures, i have. but it was never enough because he could not realize his. (why do i feel an impending sense of de ja vu?)

it may be bold and possibly foolish to say this, but truth be told: i was let down by the guy who was to be my husband.

swallowing defeat will never be easy. i need to take life one day at a time... to blossom again in God's love...His never ending unceasing love that pulsates through my core.

i believe that one day, my life will accelerate at full speed. everything will fall into place with His mercy and kindness.

today, i wore my kimono blouse and my hair long to school. i found out also that the lady i'm having issues with at school is leaving ccbc. i'm going out for drinks and karaoke tonight. i'm writing up my resume to start in the OR, newborn nursery or clinical research. i was daydreaming earlier about giving medical marijuana to my cancer patients. haha. triaged a couple of honors students conked out already by redbull and the workload. life keeps changing. you just keep chugging along. and when you are no longer sad, you know you are growing in faith, temperance, understanding, love and patience. ...never lose hope. it will take a while, but i must focus on pushing the bad thoughts away and purging the hurt.

was watching this movie yesterday before breaking up with my ex. it was called "last night," and starred keira knightley, sam worthington, eva mendes and some cute french guy. keira and sam are happily married but both of them experience temptation one night they're not together. it's titillating to see their reactions, awkward silences, raw emotions and the ultimate decisions they make.

i mean, it seemed like keira and sam's life together was near perfect. but you can never say who will be loyal, truthful or genuine.

i woke up all of a sudden and bumped my head on the light fixture. it was 347a. it didn't take too long for the grief to overcome me. i welcomed the physical aches and pains. the emptiness and my thorough disdain for long and unyielding extended engagements. just think, how my life could have have been, given the butterfly effect. just one tiny butterfly sacrificed for my sake, what would happen?

(remembering how he would stare at my face when i would pretend to close my eyes. such inner peace i felt then. how blessed the moment.)

i flinch as i remember 1cor 13. enrage courses through my body. i feel robbed. i throw away the love dare book as it mockingly stares back at me. i was 1/2 thru.

how unfortunate the circumstances of life are. broken hearts relinquish hope.

i woke up from cycling dreams. i was giving a puppy an iv. he was giving our friend (she always comes up as a symbol of a current flame) a christmas gift. how fleeting life is. hot liquid flows thru my eyes. toes curled. asthma sets in. my flame is extinguished.

unbelievably so, i still love him. blood is thicker than water and i never knew i loved my family that much till now. i fought for him but he wanted me to deny my parents like that. it took a structural engineer to break down my walls and my being. all that's left are my bones - and love, reborn phoenix-style.

i feel free-flowing sadness. i find my phone empty and useless. not just a sense of mourning, loneliness, anger, love, resentment, fear and regret - today marks a turning point in my life.

before, we made it thru our issues. it was great. he wss very loving, kind, upbeat, generous and caring.

it's funny how he has the gall to give your engagement an "ultimatum." what the hell kind of word is that, anyways? "i need world peace in the form of our parents both getting along to happen before we get married so i can find my true happiness." my reply could either go one of both ways: "would you like fries with that?" or "kiss my ass no way of that happening because of your prissy/scrappy attitude and non-apologetic behavior."

that rarely happens in real life.

i have given you so much of myself. not complaining- but i guess it wasn't enough. you wouldn't even take the idea of just us two getting married. you want the whole fairytale package. sometimes i wish i could have been all my family members- so you could like and get along with us. i guess i'm not enough for you to even overshadow all the challenges my mom and you have.

my mom only wanted the best for me. she had the right to question your intent, even after the fact. it happens to everybody.

if you had respect for your future MIL, you would have the decency to heed her wish to not invite her sister who accuses her of many grave things to our wedding - even if she was your aunt - not put salt on her wounds by force inviting her. she was really hurt when you did that. you just had to butt in with a topacio fight. you have never seen a confrontation and you never want to. you repeatedly misconstrue my mother's avoidance of talking with teng as pride. but no, it's ironically for peace. teng came to our house once, not to apologize but to act all haughty and act up again. oh well, that doesn't matter anymore now, huh?

if you were genuinely nice, you would sweep any animosity with your future mil, under the rug and not drag it out. you would be chill and fly under the radar for the sake of the one you love(d).

if you demand your future mil to say sorry and thank you to you all the time, maybe i should print out those words and laminate it.

so many ifs. but i'm not surprised this happened, knowing you. hard-headed, over-analytical, immature, over-bearing at times. rarely takes constructive criticism. his way or the highway. maybe it's a blessing in disguise we never got married.

Twenty four things I did when I was twenty four.

1. Partied with Jollibee.

2.Went Wakeboarding in Camarines Sur.

3. Adopted a Beagle.

4. Quit my retail job to pursue further studies.

5. Toured The Statue of Liberty.

6. Stared at the Hoover Dam and imagined the Transformers engaged in battle mode.

7. Witnessed the ever-changing landscapes of the Grand Canyon, Arizona.

8. Gaped at Suicide bridge, aka the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco.

9. Became thoroughly mystified and intrigued by Joshua Trees.

10. Conquered the Rubik's Cube.

11. Visited picturesque Aborlan town, Rizal in Palawan.

12. Experienced thrills & Philippine culture, cockfighting.

13. Went Parasailing.

14. Took almost a thousand snapshots at White Beach in Puerto Galera.

15. Found paradise. (Canibad, Island Garden City of Samal in Davao)

16. Zip-lined through the forests of Digos City at terrifying speeds.

17. Found new love.

18. Praised God.

19. Became an entrepreneurial partner (kahit pandesal lang).

20. Gained a new staple in my diet. :)

21. Enjoyed Todai, wide-eyed.

22. Clubbed at Mur.Mur Borgata.

23. Took on a Pug.
And Baby-sat.

24. Went back to school.

Yeah, it can get pretty hectic and it's pretty much a big whirlwind but that's how my life has been and will probably always be.
I thank God for the adventure and especially for the quiet days where I can simply sip tea and nap with the beloved.

Yesterday, I turned a quarter of a century old. Hehe.

going to school in the US can be overwhelming especially if you're like me. i already have a degree in the philippines. it's been 8 years since i've tackled any decent math. i am a crammer. i don't have internet, microsoft office, nor a printer at home. i was used to living on campus, now, i need the extra effort and discipline to wake up early to get to class on-time. what's bad enough is that i wasn't awarded financial aid which means i will have accrued student loans amounting to $13,100.50 (Php582,972.25)plus interest by the time i'm through.

teachers here spoon-feed students. there is a vast amount of information and tools available at one's discretion to understand and master each topic. and if you are like me, who scavenges for each drop of information, it's gonna get tough, stressful and expensive.

i have already $500 on my credit card and that's just for books. my income is 0.

so if you're like me, your outlook and take in life should change a bit for the better if you want to survive this textbook jungle. i know i need more focus, dedication and hard work to get to where i want to be in 3-4 years. hopefully, a good, simple and stable part-time job opportunity will present itself to me. and much more things to come.

and if you're like me, i'll meet you later on at the crossroads, waiting to chat about the whole experience. ;)

...was 25th in line this morning at White Marsh Mall for iPhone 3G. still trying to activate it online c/o iTunes. But the site has crashed! oh well... let's sit and wait.

looking at the white backing on it gets me so excited. of course i HAD to get the white one and fork out another hundred because my macbook is white. and besides, everyone has the black one. the back doesnt feel cheap at all. it's sleeker and sexier AND you can't see the fingerprint smudges on white except on the apple logo on the back which is silver. can't wait till i can use it. i mean, i'm excommunicado til then. just have to be patient.

btw, this is my present to myself for failing the Math Placement exam. HAHAHA! at least it's over and done with. made me cranky and anxious past week. hohum. let's see how my bargaining skills are with this situation. first time around, i passed the college level math and failed the elementary algebra. now, on the retake i did the opposite- failed college level and passed elementary algebra! i was kinda rushed at the end because it was 730pm and the proctors were leaving. darnit. hope and pray that they take my HIGHEST scores on both parts. let's see. ;)

gotta get out of starbucks. iTunes is too bogged down right now.

UPDATE: 3:22PM, iTunes came back u for me after mechanically plugging in/out my USB cord. got a text message from Chesco. cool. i'm in iPhone heaven. :D

2nd UPDATE: 4:57PM, i actually did pass the math exam! the advisor was like, "oh yeah, we can take the top two scores you have." WOW! i feel truly blessed. Thanks, God. Halleluia :D

red highlights

it's been a week full of great moments.

i got my hair styled and dyed red again c/o my secret financier ehem.* fun fun. took a while too. 5 hrs. i could almost see chesco's brothers (collin and cyril) bleeding tears in silent agony waiting for me and their mom to finish. how patient of them!

then we went to penang's for dinner - a malaysian restaurant. the experience was everlasting especially with a singaporean waiter who knew tagalog, pati mga hirit sa tagalog. aliw talaga. and i simply will not forget tito roger's face when it was time for someone to pay the bill. :D

went to point pleasant, NJ, which is like a mini ocean city, MD. less boardwalk to cover yet all the good stuff is right there where you want it to be - the arcade, the italian ice, junk food, horror house. sobrang saya talaga.

BLD grand reunion was fun. ches and i did the rosary. we survived the skit. our calderetang baka was really good. i wanted to take it back home. tsk tsk! it was great seeing all the old faces from SE 20. getting back with james and christine afterwards was sweet. i miss them together (LOL). i'll miss them more when james moves.

we suck at playing tennis too. franz brought his longboard with him and he just cruised around the court. ellen seemed deep in thought with her nursing status and all. i hope it turns out okay. :D

it was weird how we lounged around all saturday just in time to meet up with anne benito and jp ventura in downtown jersey. now that was craazy fun. just because everything clicked. maybe even meant to be.

most of all, i've learned about one of the most important people in my life: ches. i've seen his habits, how he thinks (and overthinks), drives, schemes aka plans, etc. and how overwhelming it all is. maybe that's how life should take you, and how you should take it: arms wide open and with a grain of salt.

it was raining hard when i boarded my bus without saying goodbye. not on purpose though. i didn't even have time to get my stuff from his car. i knew i'd see him sometime soon. ;)

so, nakikinig ako ngayun sa bagong album ni madonna: hard candy. ayus talaga ang beat; nakaka-inspire magsulat kahit inde pormal, masabi lang ang gustong sabihin dito sa blog na 2...

ngayun ang huling araw ko dito sa bahay ng pamilya maandal. isang linggo din akong tumira/tumambay rito. masaya dahil tahimik, simple, at may internet. hahaha. siyempre din dahil kasama ko si carl 'chesco' maandal. madami siyang plano para sa amin at hindi nauubusan ng gagawin.

day 1, monday: sushi overload sa u-yee sushi. overload din sa pagka-hotseat. daming tanong. insatiable. then bestbuy to check out gadgets dahil pareho kaming geeks. then go grocery.

day 2, tuesday: sinundo ako nina james at christine at ipinasyal nila ako sa menlo park mall. masaya silang kasama. all we talk about is sealed with "lipjass!" then ches and i went to christine's bake shop where we pre-ordered pandesal for the flip fest on sunday. we went to the filipino store next door where the kahera wanted to barter a filipino flag sticker with me for some 2 cans of guyabano juice. fun fun. :D

day 3, wednesday: we went to franz' house to pick him up to go bowling. i talked to his mom and met dianelle, his sis. ansaya sa brunswick zone! i got 2 strikes. yay...most ive ever gotten in life. lol. jp was there too. kakaibang bowler. in-your-face whatever style.

day 4, thursday: christine and james picked me up after lunch to go the jackson outlets. which was huge, like the tangier outlets in maryland. i bought a watch because i couldnt rely on cellphone time for the rest of my life and nag-sale sa calvin klein, half off on brassiere. then we stopped over at the applegate farms to pick up homemade icecream. we also detoured to freehold raceway mall, very sosyal. whenever you see a lord & taylor dept store at the entrance you know the mall's gonna be bigtime. ganda ng designer clothing store na Ruehl. kung hollister ang intro brand, abercrombie and fitch ang midlevel brand of clothing...ruehl ang hi end. the stores lighting and design inspired me for the interior design of my house in the future. hehe. then we got home at 10pm. went straight to the kitchen where the chicken was waiting...taught ches how to make adobo. and he saw how easy it was. :D

day 5 is today friday, im just gonna relax and be there for beh when he gets home, before we go to 1st friday mass at BLD. can't wait to see my co-participants ng Singles Encounter 20 aka SE XX. lol.

I think now is the right time to write in my blog.

It's been a fun-filled few weeks I've had. They say that now is the best part of a relationship: when love is new and thrilling. I always dread that moment in your relationship where your beating heart goes suffers from exhaustion. But what the heck, it's all bullocks. You enjoy the moments when it comes to present itself. And with this certain relationship, baby, the moments just keep on coming like waves crashing onto the Puerto Galera horizon.

I am getting to know this new beau, and he told me about past relationships he's had. Awareness is good; I think I'll just be myself this time. Pleasing guys should not be an effort. I've graduated from BS Efforting the Relationship.

My ex's sister-in-law texted me this evening. She told me that she just found out about our break up. I immediately felt the need to pop open the last bottle of red horse, which I did just now. I told her that I was sorry for not telling her this soon enough provided that my ex wanted to delay breaking the bad news to his family for as much as possible. She even asked why we broke up. I told her that we weren't on the same page anymore. That I put the white flag up. That people change. That it had always nagged me that he always reminded me that if I wanted out, that I just tell him. That there was always this feeling he could do without me anyways. That he changed his existing principles because of me. And of course, that I won't do. That it's my fault, that I am full of sh*t and I just made him hope in us. Crash and burn.

I am probably going to drop by their house when he's not there to say goodbye, out of respect for his family who has been very nice to me, especially his mom. I don't want to look back in the sad past; although they do deserve one last formal goodbye. I feel so bad saying goodbye to them. But I need to continue on in the future. My ex told me that exes are awkward. They are and will be for a long time. I have a lot of good memories with him, sometimes they keep coming back to haunt me. But I know that I'll see them again because I have a godkid to tend to.

I am wondering about this nursing thing. This choice I am making again in my life. Sigurista mode. Mahirap na kasi sa panahon ngayon ang hindi sigurado sa patutunguhan sa buhay. Mukha kang tanga. I have so many requirements to accomplish: transcripts here and there to be evaluated by the world education services, placement exams, advising and tuition (wince*). I am 24 but I don't care. I have to ask my daddy for money. Screw it! I need to get by. Don't worry, I'll find a job asap.

If I was a nurse, I'd be more health-conscious, disciplined and organized. Things I really want to improve on. I would like a job that is steady, war or peace, I'd have a job. It's a humanitarian thing too.

I am drinking alone now, and I put the Red Horse in a mug. Take note that I am tipsy right now (disclaimer). I looked at the mug and saw that it was my old mug from HS that had my Virgo Horoscope on it. Lemme write it down:

- I am. Carl says that I have this "wall". He told me he found our first conversations archived (yes, he's THAT organized) and probably I was as entertaining as a puddle of mud. It's true, opening up gave me amazing responses over the years. It needs to been done though with caution, Virgos can be proud and do not show their slushy side to just anyone that quick. Who do you think I am, chopped liver?!

Career: once you decide what you want to do, you can move ahead with few detours. your versatility and patience serve you well.

-OK yes, I can perform. I can deliver. I can do what needs to be done in times of need. I am trying to get over this hangover from college, where I tried to be a slacker/crammer. I don't wanna go back to my HS tight ass self, but I demand grace under pressure from myself now. I will use all means to get things done. But if it's not meant to be, it's simply not.

Health: good health is one of your highest priorities. you're in tune with your body and find staying fit easy and enjoyable.

-I find tooth extraction easy and enjoyable. I will dissuade myself from joining the gym again in the future because the results are just disappointing. I am focused on calorie intake now (now that I'm kinda lazy).

Fortune: virgo is the ruler of accounting, so you are likely to have an excellent grasp of finances and good luck with investments.

Friends: you are sensitive and vulnerable. tell your friends how you feel about them and they'll become closer to you.

-I take friends and giving advice with a grain of salt now. I do want to shut up more and listen more. And keep secrets more. It's just easier that way.
